Wonderful Interview by Anderson Cooper with Arizona Senator Al Melvin. Senator Melvin pretty much voiced what I always suspected -the bill, which was just vetoed by Governor Jan Brewer not twenty minutes ago, was little more than an excuse to discriminate against gays and lesbians. When asked if a Catholic Loan Officer could refuse a mortgage to a divorced person or an unwed mother - even if the divorced person or unwed mother had the means to pay the loan back - Senator Melvin replied that he didn't know of anyone who would be against unwed mothers. However, under the bill that he supported (and again, was vetoed - Kudos, Gov. Brewer), this is exactly the kind of thing that could happen. Legally. Those who supported the bill simply did not think all situations through (I wonder if campaign contributions clouded their reason?)
It pretty much proves my own thoughts - that those who proposed and supported this bill - their "sincerely held religious beliefs" are cherry-picked.
